What Happened

Needless to say, I was not in web development or graphic design anymore.

About 2 years, ago I was on the second iteration of Lampstand Creative when some thing happened both socially and technically – the web site went down and I saw no reason to bring it back up. That’s the short of it, here is the long. I was working for a local ad agency and was dabbling in web design and development. My goal had been to add this service to the business, but with the advent of a new son and increasing cost of living, I had to change jobs.

Needless to say, I was not in web development or graphic design anymore. I was hauling clean and dirty uniforms across the expanse of East Texas and sometimes into west Louisiana. I want to say, I do not consider myself too good for any kind of work. I want to be understood, I was happy to have work, and I tried to do a good and honest job. I was lost a lot, there is just no way around it. I saw and got lost in some beautiful and scary places. I also hauled some of the most foul smelling things. Sometimes you had to stop and take a break just to get away from the smell. This was definitely an adventure one that I look back on fondly.

What’s Next

Cut ahead a year and I am back in web development. Doing what I love, and Lampstand Creative is back up and running with a fresh new look and purpose. I hope to make the content here useful for life, web development, and web design.

You can look for 4 kinds of content here.

  1. Useful for life.
    1. I will use my experience as a father, man and follower of Christ to present truths and observations.
  2. Useful for web development (there are some smarter people out there, but I intend to stack up).
  3. Useful for web design (I really don’t see web design and development as different things but some people do).
  4. For fun (This is my playground).

Enough of that boring stuff

Let’s go over some of the details.

    • Custom Posts
    • Through the magic of WordPress and custom fields I am able to attach a new style sheet and even java script for each post. This means a new experience every time a new article is posted. I do have to tip my hat to those that came before me. See a break down of a few
    • The Cutting Edge
    • I will not be worrying too much about cross browser compatibility when it comes to this site. The item bellow will outline a little bit of what I am doing to try and make the web better. I really want to be on the cutting edge of what is going on and the best way to do that is to actually use the cutting edge stuff.
    • Proactive Browser Upgrading
    • I have a little java script function that keeps out old versions of Internet Explorer (right now I am filtering all of them). However when IE 9 is released I plan to upgrade my script to prompt users to upgrade to IE 9 instead of simply pointing them to other browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Opera).
    • Hidden Content
    • The details are for you to find out lets just stay that each featured post will have some hidden goodies. Yes there is a hidden goodie in this post.

Very nice redesign! Awesome graphics and usability and it even knows Safari and Opera Mobile from an Outdated Browser! Go Aaron . . .
      :)

BAD mistake to make it so that people browsing with Internet Explorer get a big stop message that suggests getting another browser. Bad for accessibility. Bad for the message it puts out (that you don’t know how to format a webpage for those with all browser), and overall just sends off a bad vibe.

I want you to know that you did not go unheard. Let me explain, I did design this site to be well laid out and functional in IE 8. My reasoning for this is that I do not plan on ever encouraging the masses to continue surfing the internet with out dated browsers. With that said your comment prompted me to fast track my releasing IE 8 to freely surf my site. However it is decidedly not as good, but it is functional. Blessings and good day sir.

Nice design, however the comments box section seems a bit too right hand weighted for my visual balance taste.
